Back To School In Style

· Converse ·

Converse, the sneaker that brings people together! It all started in 1908 when Marquis Mills founded the Converse Rubber Shoe Company, not knowing that over 100 years later these shoes would still be strolling across the streets of America. The “All Star” sneakers created for professional basketball players, and later named after pro-baller, Charles Chuck Taylor, are the most popular converse sneakers ever sold.

Chuck Taylors are seen on the feet of men, women, children, doctors, students, entrepreneurs, artists, athletes- basically everyone. To my amazement, I walk through the city and I’m enamored by the various ways people style their chucks. I’ve always been curious as to why people love their converse sneakers, but frankly, I’ve never stopped to ask. So, with it being August (Back to School Season) and living in the city with the most colleges and universities (Boston)- I thought I’d stop by Northeastern University and talk to Jessica, a rising junior, and learn about why she chooses converse.

Behavioral Neuroscience Major (Pre-Med Track)

I grew up in California and moved to the east coast for college. I’ve been living in Boston for the last two years, but I’ve kept my SoCal style to this day. I’d describe my style to be very laid back and I love to add color, patterns and texture to my outfits by purchasing fun shoes and jewelry. I have always owned a pair of converse for as long as I can remember. In fact, my first pair were these glittery pale pink high-tops that I called my “glam shoes” in grade school. My style is constantly changing and converse always has these cool collaborations and creates unique shoes like this Missoni pair that I am wearing. Being a science major and living in a walking city, I love that I can wear fashionable shoes that are both comfortable to walk around campus and functional to wear to my afternoon labs.
