I don’t know about you but as I’m getting older I am paying closer attention to the products that I consume and put into my body. Whether it be food, clothing, cleaning products, detergents and skin care; I want to make sure these products are not going to harm me or the environment. As I become a more conscious shopper and educate myself on the benefits of clean products, I believe that it is my obligation to share the knowledge and these products with my readers. As the founder of FashionablyEqual, my goal is to help you be your best self and being aware of products that have a positive impact on your health will contribute to that goal.
As a millennial who is cognizant about how products are marketed for profit and not purpose, I aim to share products that engage in socially conscious practices with the intent to improve the lives of their consumers. Therefore, this week I am sharing my reviews on products from a plant-based clean skincare line, Brown and Coconut. We recently interviewed the founders of Brown and Coconut, Letisha and Zeena, who shared their story about how they found themselves healing people’s skin and uplifting their confidences with their products. The reasons why I stand behind this company is because they run their business by their core values: always putting their customers first, being transparent about their business practices and the ingredients that they use and are constantly improving their products to help heal skin.
Even as I reduce the amount of makeup that I wear everyday, it’s been difficult to find clean products that are reasonably affordable and can clean the makeup off my face. I also know that I’m not in a place where I can get a facial every few weeks, but I want to be able to exfoliate and keep my skin moisturized. After trying a few clean care brands I found that some products were too expensive to replenish consistently, while others gave my face a tinkling feeling that make me question if they were actually 100% natural.
BALANCING CLEANSER
When I tried the Brown and Coconut Balancing cleanser- I realized that not only was I able to clean the dirt off my face, but it also served as a makeup remover. This product removed the matted red lipstick off my lips immediately and left my entire face feeling refreshed. It only took me two pumps to get enough product to clean my entire face. Getting a two-in-one product was a win-win for me at only $28.
HYDRATING FACE OIL
Usually after washing my face I have to immediately moisturize, especially in the winter. My skin gets dry and it feels so uncomfortable. No moisturizer could do the job, I even resorted to using aquaphor because my skin needed healing. That was before I tried the Hydrating Face Oil. The interesting part about this product is that unlike other oils it’s lightweight but it was quite effective. My face absorbed the oil and it didn’t sit at the surface of my face giving me this glossy oily look but instead felt refreshed and hydrated. I use the hydrating face oil twice a day, one pump in the morning and two pumps in the evening, after I wash my face. The best benefit in my opinion is that the oil moisturizes my skin so well that my make-up no longer sits as a dry layer on my face but instead gives me this fresh dewy look that makes me look fresh and awake. $28
BRIGHTENING FACE POLISH
Who doesn’t like to go to the spa and get a facial? I LOVE getting facial but my pockets cannot seem to agree. Therefore, I have managed to find a way to give myself a mini facial- basically exfoliating at home with the Brightening Face Polish. This product exfoliates and can also be used as a face-mask. Say what? Yes a face-mask. You can use it as a scrub and rise it off or let it sit on your face for 20 minutes as a face-mask. $19
